I thought Rick Daniels did the perfect job by motivating students and telling them what to do to get ahead of the game. He mentioned the importance of networking as well, which I think is key to people in our career field. As he put it, " Networking is about relationship building. Networking is PR, you are relating to the public that you would like to be a part of. So you know, when you are building relationships you are networking."

I thought Ginny Bosek was hospitable and detailed in her experience, she gave alot of good advice.I thought it was interesting that she used social media to get information about the Park System out and that she also plugged events there as well. Another thing I noticed is that alot of these alumni talk about how they "never have the same day twice"..That everyday they go to work is different. I like at the very end how she says to learn from other job experiences to better your future job/s.

I loved Merri Oxley's video a lot. She showed how Communication careers have changed and advanced over the generations and I thought it was great how she encouraged people to go out into their communities and socialize with people instead of always socializing electronically. She does go into detail about networking and social media being used too, but she doesn't think that should be your lone option, which I think is great.

Jenny, Interestingly enough we picked completely different people! I really honestly enjoyed most of these videos and it was interesting to hear all of their stories and how they all got started. I also thought that Rick Daniels did a great job though. He is obviously very good at speaking to college aged students because he works with them dailiy!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree! These were amazing people to listen to! But, not just saying this either, I think they all had amazing advice to give anybody! And although we didn't pick the same videos to focus our reviews on, I had the same opinions of them when I watched them!
ReplyDeleteJenny we picked some different people but I believe the insight you have is in the right direction. Each of the videos offered great advice for not only PR but life in general. It was rather inspiring to see UWW alum doing such exciting things in the "real world." I think that for these professionals to take time out of the their schedules and meet with UWW students shows the connection they have with our university.

I also thought it was pretty interesting how communication has changed over the years. I think it's great advice that Merri gave encouraging us to communicate in person rather than just electronically.
